H685 4G Router Overview


Proroute 4G Routers are built upon existing, tried and tested 3G router technology - the only thing that has changed is the new high speed 4G module inside. This means that you continue to get all the benefits of the Proroute M2M connectivity solution inlcuding their high quality construction, reliability and network keep-alive features at a price that does not stretch your budget for single or multiple installations..

The Proroute H685 4G LTE Router is the new high speed version of the popular H685 3G Router for M2M connectivity and provides connectivity to all the UK LTE 4G Networks (800/1800/2600Mhz). The Proroute H685 4G Router is also backwards compatible with existing 3G networks in the UK (900/2100Mhz) and provides high speed DC-HSPA+ (Up to 42Mbps) connectivity as well as standard HSPA+ (21Mbps), HSPA, EDGE (2G) and GPRS (2G) connectivity so can be used as a 3G router and when 4G network is available then by simply swapping the SIM to a new 4G SIM card then the user can benefit from higher speed 4G services.

In a recent test, based in our Romford offices, we tested the Proroute H685 4G Router using a standard EE 4G SIM card. You can see the speed test results in the video below.

4G Speed Test

The Proroute H685 4G Router works with all UK 4G networks and 4G SIM cardss inlcuding EE 4G, Vodafone 4G, O2 4G and Three 4G. The H685 4G LTE Router uses a normal sized SIM card and we recommend using the mobile broadband tariffs offered by the mobile networks rather than their 4G Smart Phone pricing plans. Some networks may prevent the use of smartphone plans (especially with unlimited internet) in devices other than smartphones.

Q. Is the Proroute H685 4G Router a suitable solution to provide 4G Internet access for my office?

A. Whilst it can certainly provide a reliable 4G mobile broadband connection with wired and Wireless LAN connections, the H685 4G Router will not have many of the office type funtions such as allocating IP addresses based upon MAC address so we would recommend that you use a multi-functional 3G/4G Router like the Proroute GEM420 4G Router which combines many office type features inlcuding IPv6 and easy VPN configuration and load balancing with the M2M features such as ping reboot and SMS reboot to ensure a reliable 3G/4G mobile broadband internet connection with enhanced functionality and management.

Q. What antennas come with the Proroute H685 4G Router?

A. The proroute H685 4G Router is supplied with both stick type and magnetic mount antennas for both the Cellular and WiFi connections - these 3G antennas are for indoor use only and the different types are inlcuded for your installation convenience. Many users will just use the stick type antennas except when installing the router in a cabinet or other enclosed unit where there may be signal interferrence in which case the magnetic mount antennas installed outside the enclosure may provide better signal reception. Please note that when using the magnetic mount antennas that these are ground plane dependent which means that they will need to be placed upright on a metal surface at least 30cm x 30cm and spaced 60cm apart for ideal performance.

Q. Can I use an external 4G antenna with my Proroute H685 4G Router?

A. Yes - the Proroute H685 4G router has screw type SMA antenna connectors so can be used with an external antenna. The typical reason for using an external antenna is that the 4G router is positioned in a location with very poor or no signal eg. inside a metal cabinet or metal construction building (portacabin / site office) but there is a strong 4G signal outdoors. The 4G antenna can be positioned in a location with a good signal and deliver this to the router. The higher gain on these outdoor antennas is not to improve the download speeds, the extra gain is required to compensate for the additional signal loss down the length of the antenna cable.
